An Out of The Box Fibre Artists Exhibition

Stittsville Public Library Nov. 1st- 30th, 2015

Out of the Box (OOTB) is a group of fibre artists passionate about creating and sharing innovative, thought-provoking fibre art. The group promotes fibre art in the community with exhitbitions in and around Ottawa every year.

The challenge for the current show at the Stittsville Public Library  was for the artists to start from a page or pages taken  from an old dictionary and to let it spark their imagination. The exhibition displays 24 pieces by 22 fibre artists. Each piece is quite unique as the artists have used a wide variety of materials, techniques and design approaches

The show runs until November 30th at the Stittsville Public Library, 1637 Stittsville Main, Stittsville, ON K2S 1A9.

Je participe à cette exposition avec un livre fait à base de chandail de laine feutré, un projet que j'envisageais depuis longtemps.  J'aime beaucoup acheterdes chandails pure laine  dans des fripperies, et les feutrer pour ensuite imaginer des usages pour ces tissus qui ne s'effilent pas. quand j'ai vu ce chandail, je suivais mon premier cours de reliure de livres et l'idée m'est venue d'en faire un livre.  

Mon livre-chandail s'intitule  A good Book and a Warm Sweater. Comme les artistes participants devaient s'inspirer de mots et de dictionnaire, j'ai choisi de faire des accordéons  de 26 pages -une page par lettre de l'alphabet.  Et pour chaque lettre, j'ai choisi dans un vieux dictionnaire anglais des mots qui résonnaient pour moi, et leur définitions datant de 1961.
